The KB Centre project encompassed the refurbishment of the first floor former Spot Cafe in to part of the Library Study Centre offering a range of hardware, software, and computer services.
Our client was looking for an energy efficient solution to the project, and was keen to avoid having to install any air handling plant along with possible cooling, due to the buildings large glazed perimeter at level 1, with the glazing being banked, and with the glazed areas being east facing, The first floor area had a history of overheating. WGM reviewed this and looked at a couple of solutions with The University of Edinburgh, and looked to a solutions where controlled cross ventilation through the space in to the adjoining enclosed street, where automatic roof light ventilators linked in with the BMS were installed, so that they could be controlled in a manner to allow temperature relief to the main study area, and to provide the users with a comfortable environment.
The M&E works to the KB Centre comprised the following:
Energy efficient LED lighting and lighting controls
New power systems and distribution
Structured Cabling and specialist A/V cabling
BMS system upgrade
Access control systems
Perimeter LTHW heating with LTHW radiant heating to the main covered street area
